Panel 61W

Panel 61W, originally uploaded by mwenthold.

This is probably my favorite shot from the DC photowalk. I had a great time and got to meet some pretty cool people, I can't wait for the next one.

skeleton crew update

FINALLY, I can update the blog. it's been a hectic couple of days.

Friday I wrapped up from work and ran down to the DC Photowalk. There was an excellent turnout, and I can't wait to see what some people came up with. We walked from the Lincoln Memorial down to about where the NGA is, by that time it was pretty late and everyone was tired. So I decided to walk all the way back. I thought that would be a good idea. I'm still paying for it, I feel like I had a rubber chicken implant into each leg.

I'm going through the pictures now, hopefully something will be worthy of posting.

The Washington Monument in fog

The Washington Monument in fog, originally uploaded by mwenthold.

I remember this day. It was a couple of years ago and I noticed that the morning fog that we rarely get wasn't lifting as we got closer to lunchtime, so I grabbed my camera and hopped on the metro to see if there was anything worth shooting.

Drive by update

My life has been a bit crazy recently so I haven't updated this blog. I have been shooting every day but I haven't found much time to do anything with the photos. I've been trying to get really good with workflow - my real Achilles heel - but I'm still not comfortable with the whole end to end process yet. IDImager has been brilliant in this regard, it's already made a huge difference in how I manage and process my photos.

We just finished our "block" project and I think it worked well. I would like to have more pictures online, but other matters have taken priority in my life. We have started our next series of projects and I'm pretty excited about it; we are going through the projects listed in John Hegdecoe's excellent "Complete Guide To Photography". I'll get more into this later, but our first project is "Shape" - a 2 part project with the first strictly being silhouettes and the second being pictures where shape is a dominate element of the photo. We'll see how it goes! I'll try to finish up some of the block pictures and get them online. IDImager makes it really easy, so I don't have much of an excuse for letting it slide for much longer.

Picking up the camera...

Okay - I'm back. I think I'm here to stay.

I recently went through a long period of time where I was just grinding through days. Most of my hobbies went to the background. Photography, gaming, cooking, etc. I mainly went to work, went home, spent time with my family and that was about it.

I think I was feeling just a bit overwhelmed.

I still feel overwhelmed, but I realize now that I'm just that kind of person. I constantly overprogram my life. I try to put 10 pounds of crap in a 5 pound bag. I just have to deal with it, and part of dealing with it is achieving some kind of balance between work, family life and hobbies/entertainment.

I've started packing a camera everywhere I go, and I'm going through and organizing my photo library (a daunting task, I have tens of thousands of uncatalogued photos). I signed up for a DC photowalk in August that I'm excited about.

My wife and our oldest kids also enjoy photography, so we've arranged some challenges. It's not really a contest, but an assignment. My wife's idea was what I like to call the "Block Project". We have one week to take pictures of anything/everything on our block. There's no creative limits, the only requirement is that it has to be taken on our street. We have until next Wednesday to select our 10 favorite pictures for this assignment.

The project that I've proposed is to spend a week on each subject in John Hedgecoe's excellent "Complete Guide To Photography" (link) or at least to the sections that make sense - those dealing with technique, composition and style.

I can't wait to get shooting. That's all for now.

not so sweet...

My weekend that is.

Sick as a dog (the whole family is sick... not surprising), my wife I spent saturday night (from about 6pm to 1AM) in the emergency room with our four year old, and OU got thrashed by texas.

I've had better weekends.

I was supposed to be at an Oscars party tonight, but our weekend just kind of left us drained. I guess it's also not good form to head to a crowded party with the flu. That's okay, the Oscars is a buncha crap anyway. I guess I'm off to bed...

SWEET!!!!

Well Hello

Here I am. Sort of.

The reason this little virtual spot was set up was for me to share some of the different things that I come across in daily life that might (or might not) be worth sharing. These could include posts about internet security, photography/photoshop, movies, scripting, systems admin, music, arts, raising kids, OU sports or anything that is related to being a member of the human race. Let's see how it goes.
